Fathers’ Day in Bornhagen, Eichsfeld, Germany, 5.5.2016
A fine late spring day, in the rolling countryside of Eichsfeld, an old Catholic enclave established after the thirty-year war. Fathers’ day, or Ascension Day, is famous for the day on which fathers walk around getting drunk with their sons, if they have any. The next day there is always a police-report in the local paper stating how many fights, arrests and accidents occurred, written in a joking almost ironic tone.
But this year it was rather different. This year the Anti-Deutsch as part of the AntiFascists (AntiFa) movement decided to protest against the rise of the AfD directly in the village of the AfD’s pure-blooded rising prodigy Björn Höcke.
